Study in Denmark: The best Scandinavian country for studying abroad as an International student

Denmark Work Visa

As of July 1, 2024, international students can work up to 90 hours per month and full-time in June, July, and August. You can apply for a Danish work visa online through the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI). You can apply yourself or have someone apply on your behalf.

Denmark Establishment Card

Graduates from Danish higher education programs at the Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD levels are eligible for a duration of up to 2 years (with the possibility to extend by an additional year). This may allow graduates to work in Denmark in any field and even start a business.The application must be submitted within a year of completing studies. 


What is necessary? A Proof of graduation from a recognized Danish institution, and financial proof to support yourself in Denmark.


Denmark Job-Seeking Visa

Graduates from Danish higher education institutions are eligible to apply. Duration will be for 6 months. This visa allows recent graduates to stay in Denmark to search for a job in their field. A valid residence permit is required as a student in Denmark, along with proof of graduation.


Pay Limit Scheme

Individuals with a job offer in Denmark that meets a specified minimum salary requirement can apply. It is typically granted for 4 years, with options for renewal for employment across all industries, providing greater flexibility as long as the salary threshold is met.


A valid job offer with a salary above the specified limit is needed (usually around 465,000 DKK annually, though this may vary) and proof of qualifications or relevant experience in the role.


Denmark Fast-Track Scheme  

Those with a job offer from a Danish company are certified to use the Fast-Track Scheme. It is valid for up to 4 years, and renewable. This allows to to quickly onboard qualified international graduates and professionals with Danish firms.


A Job offer from a certified employer is essential and te role must align with the applicant’s qualifications.


Transition to Permanent Residency

After holding a work visa for 8 years (or 4 years in some cases), you may apply for permanent residency in Denmark if you meet the criteria.

  • For Academy Profession (AP) degree programs (short-cycle professional higher education), a qualification level equivalent to a relevant Danish vocational diploma may suffice. Certain Professional Bachelor’s programs may also accept a relevant vocational qualification.


Specific Admission Requirements

  • Similar to Danish applicants, you must meet the specific entry requirements for your chosen program. These requirements often include the level of subjects completed, grades in individual subjects, and overall grade point average (GPA).

  • It’s recommended to consult the educational institution you wish to apply to and confirm if you meet the specific requirements. 

  • You can review specific course requirements on the university’s website.

  • If your qualifications do not meet these requirements, you may have the option to take a supplementary course, making you eligible for admission. Note that these courses are only offered in Danish and do not affect your GPA.


Language Requirements

  • You will need to document proficiency in English, depending on the program. 

  • For programs taught in Danish, you must demonstrate sufficient oral and written proficiency in Danish by the start of the program.
